FROSTY THE POTENTIAL GRAPE RUINER

There have been a lot news stories lately about how the late season frost affected wine crops in Sonoma and Napa County. Just when flowers begin to bloom, temperatures reached record lows, which can have devastating effects on the sensitive vines. Serendipitously, none of Cline’s vineyards have been drastically affected by the harsh spring weather.

Charles G. Tsegeletos, Cline and Jacuzzi’s Winemaker, recently commented on the state of the vines, stating that the Carneros and Oakley vineyards were “untouched by the frost,” while certain areas along our coastal land did get frosted. The Viognier and Pinot Gris grapes in particular experience the most amount of frost damage, but “we have some growth of secondary buds so we will still get grapes from those vines.”

With our grapes still in excellent shape, the upcoming harvest season looks to be fruitful and remarkable as ever.
